Sigh
I've been avoiding posting lately because I really didn't want this to turn into a Rage Diary. However, since I now HAVE a Rage Diary elsewhere, it's safe for me to be here again. LOL Interesting story, that, actually.
The upgrade at work was a bloody nightmare. However, we got the main infrastructure in place without too much pain. A bit stressful, but the tech support guys are pretty good. Then we finally get to the point where we're going to hire the new Adult Case Manager. Fine, I've got everything I need for that process to happen. Then "The Big Ugly Staff Problem" rears it's ugly head. We have to get seating arrangements worked out and NO ONE wants to be stuck with The Person Everybody Hates. Finally one of the ladies who is only in the office once or twice a month volunteers, since she'll never have to see her anyway. The Person Everybody Hates is only in the office one or two hours a week herself so the odds are pretty good. HOWEVER, whoever TPEH has compromising photos of in the Main Office decided that they needed to be in charge of the seating arrangements. Let's just say it got ugly, and I had to try and manage the move as best I could under these circumstances. Things were changed out from under me three times before they finally settled on the absolute worst possible seating arrangment for everyone involved. But it's finally over except for some tweaks here and there.
There is much more detail in my Rage Diary. Hee. Administrative Professional Day was last month, so my boss gives me a lovely journal since she recently discovered after having this conversation a few times and reading my resume that I like to write. It works very nicely as a Rage Diary, I find. And I keep it right on the armoire behind my desk for easy access when I need to Rage. Everyone else got me a card and a bagel and some flowers and a 12 pack of Diet Dew then took me out to lunch. I love the ladies I work with. Just about the only reason I'm not concentrating on JobsinME.com 24/7.
Things around the house are pretty SSDD. I've been a bit stressed out, but I've been trying to keep it in check as much as possible.
We discovered that Ian had been having trouble getting to sleep and that he was "zoning out" at school. For some unknown reason I didn't connect the two so I took him in to the doctor to get him referred to an Autism Specialist, fearing that it was some manifestation of that that required medication or something. Turns out, after talking to our wonderful PCP (she was written up in McCalls or Redbook or one of those magazines) that it's most likely the "zoning out" is a side effect of the not sleeping thing. So she suggests we start Melatonin at bed time. I've read about it before on my support group list so I thought "what the heck". I stop at the store and ask the pharmacist about it. He says start him on one or two miligrams a night and see how it goes. Seems to be working pretty well so far. Ian actually reminds me about it if I forget. He says it helps him get right to sleep. He says he hasn't had a "zoning out" episode since last Monday. So I'm hopeful this is a good start.
The school did Iowa testing and the special ed kids had their Triennial testing week before last. Then Ian had his PET meeting last Monday. You'll be shocked to learn that his Asperger's Syndrome hasn't miraculously disappeared and that it's still affecting his academic performance. ::headdesk::. I think the IEP ended up being a pretty good one this year. The major victory we won was they took the time limit off the classroom aide. It's officially written in that the aide will be with him "as needed during academic activities". Mostly reading, writing, and other sitting at a desk focusing on stuff work.
I'm still going through the referral process to have him seen by the Autism Specialist. Just cause it can't hurt anything to get an expert opinion. We haven't had him looked at by anyone besides school people since his diagnosis when he was 3 or 4. But DANG do they require a pile of paperwork, so you can get on a 6 month to 1 year waiting list. Such is the life of a mom.
Aidan is doing well, as usual. She still got a 1 in following directions on her last progress report. But I think she'll settle down once she gets into the more structured environment in 1st grade. The principal always sends out forms for the parents to fill out that ask for input on what kind of classroom environment they feel would be good for their kid, what kind of learning style the kid has, that kind of thing. So I mentioned that on the form. Otherwise she's pretty much loving life. One of her 90 best friends invited her to their Harry Potter Themed birthday party at the back room of the firestation. It was a day at Hogwarts. They got sorted into houses, had classes like Potions, got favors and treats like Dementor Chocolates and Bertie Botts All Flavored Beans. Basically made every other parent of a six year old in the area look like slackers. LOLOL No progress on the thumb sucking or blankie front. One of her front permanent teeth is starting to come in, so I'm thinking at some point we may have to get more agressive with this. Hopefully we can do it without setting ourselves up for years of therapy bills.
John and I have been talking and it looks like we might start working on getting financing in January. I really want to be in a house in the school district up the road before Ian goes into the fourth grade. Keep a good thought.
And on my totally frivolous note, once again the finale of CSI hits it over the Green Monster. HOWEVER, if they kill off my Sara, there are a couple of people at Bruckheimer Productions, CBS, etc. with whom I will be having words. BAD, BAD PTB!!!
Ok, that's that about that. Peace out.
