Busy busy busy

I have decided that I never want to move offices in this organization again unless I have complete control over every aspect of the process. LOL Where to start.

Ok. The department I work for signed a 10 year lease on some office space on the floor above the one we're in now. Then were then told they needed to move down where we are now to help defray expenses with the other department that was already here. But they still had the 10 year lease upstairs, which they were assured could be sublet easily. **scoff** NEVER believe anyone when they tell you that. Anyway... At the annual budget meeting it was decided that since the space upstairs wasn't going to be leased any time soon and we were just paying for it to sit empty, we should find a use for it. And the social workers were feeling a bit cramped in the office they were all shoved into anyway... So it was decided to move the conference room up into the old space and move the ladies into the conference room space. In order for this to happen, we needed to downsize three of their desks. At that time they had L-shaped desks which took up a lot of floorspace. So I shopped around and finally got a good deal on used single pedestal desks at a used furniture place up in Lewiston. Now since they were movng out of their space, and everyone thought it would be nice to have a foyer where people could actually sit and wait for appointments, it was decided that I should move into that space. Cool by me, I can get a lot more work done when I'm not in the main traffic lane anyway and I'll get a REALLY BIG window. :D This all meant that I'd have to have the switchboard moved into this space, the extensions installed and rerouted to the new space down the hall and the ISDN lines run upstairs for the VRI hookup. In order for this to all move along smoothly, I needed a firm date for when the movers were coming. I had to time it all around that as we don't have a lot of space to work with so things would kind of be moving in behind things going out. Unfortunately, I wasn't put in charge of arranging for the movers. I kept asking the person who was given this charge..."When are they coming? I have desks that need to be delivered and I need to get the phones moved." Her answer was always "Oh, I need to call them. It's either going to be the 10th or the 11th." Finally it came down to a point where I needed to give people a date so I arranged things for the 10th. Friday, I ask her "So when are these guys coming?" "Oh, I gotta call them..." Whateva....

Monday, the 10th, I'm talking to my boss on the phone and I say "I still don't know what's going on with the movers, but I got desks and the phone guy coming today" So she tells me "I'll call the other person and find out what's going on" She calls me back in a bit and says "Well, you can hit the roof any time now, they're not coming until tomorrow around 1 in the afternoon." GAH!!! I call the desk guy and ask if he can deliver the next afternoon late and he says he'll try but it will most likely not be until Wednesday morning. I call the phone guy and they say if they don't do it that day it would be a couple days before they could schedule it again. UGH! So I tell the phone guy to come ahead. All the phone lines get moved, but the people are still in the same office. No one has phones. The movers finally show up and move everything but now three people don't have desks. The desks don't get there until Wednesday afternoon. I finally got everything squared away by the end of the day on Friday but I was just fried. So I took Monday off then I spent the next three days getting my work caught up that I hadn't had time to do before and took Friday and the following Monday off. Blech...

So now I have the tech upgrade guy coming out here on the 8th to talk me through what all is going on with that because that is supposed to start in September. I REALLY don't get paid enough. LOL

And on August 25th Aidan has her Kindergarten Orientation Day. :( I know. It's a good thing. She is so smart and friendly she will do great. Apparently at the screening the kindergarten teachers were fighting over who was going to get her. ROFL! One of the ladies who works at our daycare also volunteers at the school and she was telling me this. She said she was thinking as she was listening, "Yeah, you haven't seen her temper yet." hee hee hee...

That's my baby girl. She asked me yesterday or the day before "Why did you name me Aidan?" I told her because it means Little Fire. I wanted her to have a strong personality. I said "and boy if it didn't work!" We were reading the placemats at the Chinese restaurant and Aidan was born in the Year of the Snake. Strong willed personalities. She likes that. It's not always an enjoyable trait for the parent/teacher but gods I hope she keeps it. :D

Harry Potter fever has hit our household full force, man. I brought home the first two movies cause someone here had them and I thought the kids might like em. I had read the first book last summer and I did like it. Well that was all she wrote. The next weekend I rented the last two and now it's all Aidan will talk about. LOL She is going to marry Harry ya know. :D I had to bring her to work one day during The Move and she kind of sat in here watching movies and coloring. She did such a good job I stopped at Wal Mart on the way home and she got to pick out a special treat. Yep, you guessed it. The first Harry Potter movie. At some point I'm sure we'll get the others. We have, however, stated that they can't watch them past number three until they're a bit older. Goblet of Fire was REALLY intense, especially at the end. I broke down yesterday and bought the books. I just finished my Waylon autobiography today so I figure I'll start on the series. My friend Gail says you appreciate the movies much more after reading the books. I'm sure. I usually like the book better than the movie. I started to read the first one to the kids. Aidan got bored after about 10 pages, but Ian seemed to enjoy it. We'll see.

I have been working with Ian every day after work on his reading and writing. He seems to be getting better. His reading is really improving. I don't know if it's just because I'm spending so much one on one time with him and when he actually starts school again he'll revert or what. All I can do is do the work and hope for the best. He is going to be getting the extra help next year through the special ed department so maybe it will kick in for him. When we did our reading on Monday he actually started looking at the whole word and recognizing the ones he knew like Cretaceous Period. I'm taking that as a good sign. Once we finish this level 4 book about pterodactyls which is for 1st and 2nd grade readers, I thought we'd take it easy and read a level 2 book about whales. I try to only do a page a night because it's just such a struggle for him. I just know if we can get past the hump he will take off with the reading. I don't know if he will ever excell at writing. *sigh*

I got a new phone. My old one's screen died so I couldn't really use it very well. Luckily our contract was up so I could get a new phone for the discount rate. I got a Motorola RazrV3. It's nice. I changed up my ringtone. U2, though I love them, was getting a bit old. So I got the Diagon Alley theme from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It's nice, actually.

So that's kind of what I'm up to lately. Busy, but making progress. This is a good thing. :D

Peace out.

Having moved with an entire company (without stopping actually working), you have my deepest sympathies for the headaches you've been dealing with. That was about 5 years ago, and there are still boxes in my storeroom that haven't been unpacked... Such is what happens when you let people who can't see the big picture have responsibilities. Not nearly as bad for me as you, but I totally understand.
So, are you actually having a summer yet, or is it just me?
