I'm a STAR!!!!!

It appears that some wackjob teacher in Shreveport LA has chosen my blog to use as an example of the evils of posting your blog on the internet to their students. This person put together a pretty negatively slanted mish mash of things pulled from my blog (some accurate, some not) along with all my contact information (which is not on my blog or website and can be gathered without anyone ever having a blog, just google yourself and find out) and forwarded it to their students via email. One of them then snail mailed the thing to me.

I don't advertise my blog. It's mostly here for friends and family to read. I've had my website on the net since 1999 and my blog since 02 or 03. I think this teacher could have found a more constructive way to make their point than villifying me to their students. Especially without even having the common courtesy to let me know they were going to do it. Yes, they made a point. If you post your blog on the internet, anyone on the planet can find it. But I wasn't violated by a "bad guy". I was violated by a teacher. So what does that tell you?

John and I talked. I asked him if I should take it down. He suggested making it harder to find. But here's the thing. I have gotten comments and emails from people saying thank you for sharing your story. It has helped me. I know when I read AJ's blog the things he wrote about himself and his situation really helped me. I have made friends through this blog, including Joel. I would never have met these people if it weren't for my blog.

If a bad guy wants to find you, they will. No one's information is private. Between online Yellow pages, white pages, people-finders...etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum no one can hide from the bad guys without government interference and sometimes not even then.

Oh, and Teacher in Shreveport LA...the road to hell is paved with good intentions. When you perform the same wrong against someone you are trying to prevent, you are no better than the wrongdoers themselves.

Wow Kim!
I can't believe this teacher! Being a teacher,I'm sure she is very well aware of the influence she has on her students, it can be quite powerful. I've had instances where I felt guilty because I tell students flat out that I am an atheist, or that I see nothing wrong with using marijuana for medicinal purposes. I only tell them these things when they ask, and because I think that it's horrible to lie to them about who I am. On the other hand, I have no idea what grade this lady teaches, but I assume it's probably highschool. Having children in highschool and 140 15 year old students I can tell you this: The kids will come to your blog, read it with minds more open than this lady can ever imagine and learn something from you. They may or may not agree with you, and some may echo this neglectful teachers words, but don't assume they are all going to villify you like the teacher did. You are different, and wonderful, it's going to appeal to many of them who are going to read it and soak it up, and give them the opportunity to think and question, which is what they should do. Without even knowing it, she just opened up some of thier minds to something they probably didn't even know existed out here in the real world. Don't ever stop writting, believe me, you do the world a lot of good! Love, Lori

Wow...I'm gettin all misty. Thanks so much Lori. I can't tell you how much it means to me to hear this, especially from you. I've always valued your opinion more than most. :D I hope you're right.

Hugs
