Another new year
So last night I decided to watch a couple of the movies I have but haven't watched yet. I finally watched "Monster". Charlize Theron did a WONDERFUL job! The prostetic teeth were rather distracting but other than that I was amazed. Every interview I've seen her in she is this cute little thing. But she WAS Aileen. As some of you know I'm an amateur study of serials so I'm pretty familiar with Aileen and her manerisms, her internal justifications. This was spot on. I had heard when the movie came out that the families of some of the men were upset because she was portrayed as somewhat sympathetic and the men as evil rapists. But that wasn't the case. Well, ok, she was portrayed in a somewhat sympathetic light but nowhere in the movie was there every any indication that what she did was in any way justified. The final victim was actually portrayed as extremely sympathetic. (Played by Scott Wilson, the actor who plays Sam Braun in CSI LOL) I think if there was any stretching of the "truth" in this movie it was in the character of "Shelby". The actual name of her partner was Ty and she was hardly the sweet innocent portrayed by Christina Ricci. At any rate, good movie, two thumbs up. :D
Then I watched "Blue Planet" which is a kind of documentary produced by Lockheed and NASA for IMAX. It's a beautiful movie. I'd pay money to have seen it in IMAX actually. The really cool thing, about the whole movie, though, is when Ian came in to watch with me. He loved it so much he wanted to watch it twice. LOL It speaks of the interwoven fabric of the ecosystem of our planet. It lit a fire under him, I'll tell ya. He wanted to know what he could do right that minute to fix everything. LOL I told him about how we all do what we can and every little bit helps. I told him about how I write letters to the government to tell them about the things I care about and he was right there with a piece of blue construction paper wanting to write a letter. He wants to write a letter to the president about making laws to take care of the planet and not making laws that don't take care of the planet. Now, I am all for him getting into activism. I'm just worried about him doing it under the current administration. I would hate for him to end up on a Homeland Security Watchlist at 7 for expressing an opinion that doesn't follow party lines. And there is no way I can explain that to him. So I haven't figured out what I'm going to do about that yet.
I don't have a lot of high hopes and expectations for this year. I don't want to put that on myself at this point. I'll just be happy to have a job and healthy kids. Everything else is going under the category of "gravy". MAYBE I'll look forward to getting a washer/dryer when we get our taxes back but that's about it.
So take care, and Happy New Year to anyone who reads. One day at a time. Peace out.
