New Job
So here I am, at my new job. I got the one at the Case Management place. I'm officially the Office Manager. **bows gracefully** It's about as cool as I thought it was going to be. Very laid back, working with a bunch of social workers. They all apreciate me because I am the most computer literate person in the building. LOL Apparently the last person to hold this position wasn't very good at it. I have been bustin my hump to get things up to an acceptable level of organization for the past 3 or 4 weeks. It's getting there. My next big organizational task is going to be the server. First of all, it's not really a server, it's a Windows 2000 machine functioning as a server. The common folder where the forms and whatnot lives is just a mess. No one can find anything in there. It's about 3 gigs and we don't have a tape backup for it. I had to convince them to get a 750 zip in the interim so I can at least back up the database and casenotes. UGH! I sent out my first data collection email today to find out what folks use and what they don't, then I'm going to archive and delete the stuff they don't. And after that, organize the stuff they do use so they can actually find it.
All of their forms were in Word and therefore useless as editable documents, so I have been slowly replacing them with Excel for the time being. I am working with one of the girls in the main office to get Acrobat but haven't heard anything definite yet. The database is a pretty simple Access one. It's actually about 100 times better than the one 5 people spent a year designing at my last job. This one was designed by one person. She's actually quite geeky, I like her. And she likes me which is cool because she is my boss's boss. **big thumbs up** Overall, I'm pretty happy with the job situation right now. Got a lot more work to do, but I'm in my element and I'm respected so it's all good.
Ian has been up and down in first grade. I met his teacher and she really rocks! She emails me every day or so to keep me up to date on things going on. He's had some rough patches but we've been able to work them all out so far. Right now we're dealing with him being a bit reluctant to follow instructions in class and acting up in the bus line at the end of the day. Last week it was reluctance to follow instruction on the bus. Before that it was completely ignoring everything in music class and just "doing his own thing". Most of the time it's a matter of reasoning with him accompanied by taking away priveledges that can be earned back by improved behavior. When I talked to him last night he said he was having trouble because his brain just starts thinking about other things sometimes. Given his Asperger's that is completely likely, but nonetheless unacceptable. So we have to work on that. *sigh* No one said it was ever going to be easy.
Aidan is thriving in preschool. She is so smart. **Note to self: Get Cornell application paperwork** And, being Aidan, she has a WICKED busy social calendar. She has been invited to 3 birthday parties in the last 2 months. Gods help me. LOL She still has the Irish Temper. Getting her dressed in the morning is a chore on good days. She always wants to wear a dress. Her clothes have to be pretty, includng her socks. I swear if I wasn't there for the birth, I'd doubt we were related. She's decided what she wants to be when she grows up: an astronaut, a music teacher and a ballet dancer. ...kay see what we can do about that.
Since I started getting paid again we are starting to get our heads above water. Expenses have been pared down significantly so in a couple months we should start having a little extra at the end of the month. It seems I have finally found a theraputic level of meds. I'm on Wellbutrin and Clonopin and between the two I have been pretty even lately. I have a few more doctor's appointments to go to. I have to see an endochrinologist next week. Dr. M. thinks I may be becoming insulin resistent. I swear the universe is conspiring against me to rid me of EVERY bad habit I ever had. If I have to give up Coca Cola I might as well just pack it in. LOL
CSI is on tonight. Season 6 is pretty good so far. Tonight's epi is based off the Heaven's Gate cult thing a few years back. And we get to meet Warrick's wife. But if Billy Peterson doesn't get rid of that god awful straw hat I'm gonna throw something. hee hee hee hee
Wel there it is. Peace out.
