Well, I know there are some of you who have been waiting with baited breath to hear how the PET went. ;oD
It actually went perfectly! I was way overprepared. We had way too many people. And we got every single thing we asked for. Ian will be going to the regular kindergarten, he will NOT be in the dreaded TLC/ABA program! Even the coordinator of the program said that he is way too high functioning to go there after she went to see him at his regular school. He will not be assigned a 1:1 aide. He will be given reasonable accomodations including additional in-class staff as needed during the first month to ease his transition. He will still be getting OT and ST but they are going to work on moving that into the classroom as well. And they are going to continue to use his picture schedule and let him carry his squishy toys as needed. AND we have written into the IEP that there will be monthly parent meetings to keep me updated on his progress. They are going to carry the IFSP goals over into the IEP for now and then reassess in mid-October to see if there needs to be any adjustments made. I know that this will need to be monitored so I can't completely relax my guard but this is SUCH a relief. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I will be getting a written copy of the IEP soon, and I will then go over it and make sure that everything that was supposed to be written in is actually there. If it's not I get to send it back and ask that it be included. And I have the whole meeting on tape so they can't give me any of that "Oh but that was never discussed." cr**. From that point on, it's just a matter of referring back to the IEP if something isn't being done correctly.
And I have the home addresses of every member of the school board. :oD
So now it's just a matter of getting myself set up in the system. Volunteer work, PTA, going to board meetings, that sort of thing. I may have to cut back on my online activities once that starts up. We'll see.
John is still unemployed. *sigh* He will be getting unemployment but there is a cap of $290.00/week here in Maine. It's a heck of a cut from $500.00/week which is what he was making. I'm about ready to start taking hardship donations. LOLOL He called the electrician's union on Thursday and Friday. They are still taking apprentices but the classes start in a week and he has to go through the whole application process which includes getting transcripts from High School and college and filling out an application that they will be mailing to him. Rather frustrating in this electronic age that these things can't be done online. Their benefits aren't as good but it's paid training and electricians make good money once they get started on the job. He has been doing that kind of work for years so it won't be a problem if he can just get in the door.
It was a good Memorial Day weekend. Saturday we went down to Cape Elizabeth and played around in Ft. Willams park for a while. Ian and I had a good time climbing on the rocks and picking up trash. We had a whole paper grocery bag full by the time we left. He remarked that we didn't leave any marks on the rocks and the only mark we left on the park was less polution. I love that kid. :oD Aidan and Daddy ran around on the beach looking at seaweed and shells. Then yesterday we went up to Harrison and had lunch in the park up there on Crystal Lake. They have a great playground right next to the beach. Ian was pretty bummed that we didn't find any salamanders. Aidan, however, had a heck of a time playing in the water. She had a little knit sundress on that was pretty well soaked by the time we left. Ian actually went out wading up to his bottom. I think this will definitely be the year they both learn to swim. We have had such a time getting Ian to not be afraid of letting go of the ground that it hasn't been practical and Aidan was just to rambunctious. LOL Shock. There is a great summer camp up north of us that we were thinking about sending Ian to for a week but it's not sleep away and we weren't sure if John would be able to drive him or not. They are having a Conservation Week in July with swim lessons which would have been perfect. I just wish they would have a van or something to transport the kids. Dangit.
I had a tough time after the PET meeting healthwise. I got myself so worked up over the preceding two months that when it was all over, my body just crashed. I was in bed for the majority of the last week. But I'm feeling better today. I actually feel pretty good today. I don't know when my body got so fragile. I didn't used to get sick. I always had about 3 weeks sick time built up because I never used it. But it seems like since the kids were born, my body just doesn't work right anymore. I guess that's what happens when you get old. My trip to the audiologist was a bust. I have lost more hearing and I am starting to lose more in the midrange but not enough to warrent hearing aids. *sigh* I am deaf but not deaf enough. Oh well. He said to come back in 2 more years. LOLOL We'll see. Hopefully we will have good insurance again in two more years.
By now, all of you who are on my snail mail list should have received your pictures of the kids. If not, let me know.
Otherwise, it's pretty quiet around here.
Peace.
