Ok, I'm better now. Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. Ian finally told us that Camden hit him first and that's why he bit him. Still not good but not quite as troublesome. At least it makes sense so now I can address it properly.
I just got off the phone with one of the teachers over at the ABA kindergarten. I don't think she likes me. I wasn't shy in telling her that I'm not overly enthused about Ian going to her school. I got a look at the program outline today and it SUCKS!!! It is 90% pull out. Kids are with the regular classroom at the beginning and end of the day and the rest of the time they are in therapy or life skills rooms.
THIS IS MY WORST NIGHTMARE COME TRUE!!!!!!!!!! I am trying not to overreact. I am trying to keep an open mind. She said it's not a pure ABA program. They use lots of positive supports as well and they don't use strict ABA practices. But there is only 1 kid who happens to have High Functioning Aspergers who is in the regular classroom for MOST of the day. Every child in the place gets pulled out at some point for some period of time.
CDS has already referred Ian there. They are coming to the PET. If the school district decides it would be in his best interest to go there, he will go. We have no say in it. This is their excuse to not have to make accommodations for kids with special needs in the regular classroom. Ship 'em there so they don't disrupt or contaminate the normal kids. If we can't work something out with the school district where my kid can get an actual education I will either have to quit my job, sell the house and home school him or pay tuition to send him to another school where conditions aren't so barbaric.
**CAUTION: VENOMOUS RANT**
I absolutely hate this. I hate George Bush and everyone who is gutting IDEA to make this easier for schools to do. I hate school districts who pigeon hole children. Who look at them as assets and liabilities rather than the future generations of the human race. I hate people who don't want to pay for decent schools. Everyone who ever voted against a bond issue or tax increase to fund schools should be ashamed of themselves. They have no right to complain about how uneducated our children are or how little our kids have to offer verses kids from other countries. It's as much their fault as anyone else's.
**END VENOMOUS RANT**
I'm going to go get some lunch.
Peace.
