I feel really bad for my friend Martie today. Well, this is kind of an ongoing "feeling bad" thing but it hit her kind of hard this weekend. For those who don't know, she's a Jehovah's Witness. They're a pretty strict bunch. Her youngest son, Z, is gay. Understandably, this is rather devastating to her. Homosexuality is listed as a sin in the bible so she can't condone his having a relationship. She can't go to the wedding, if there ever is one, she can't have grandchildren, at least in her eyes. We were talking today and even in the JW vision of the future when everyone is resurrected in perfection, Z won't be. If you are sick, or have a disorder like Autism (which her oldest son has) you will be resurrected in the new world as perfect and live happily ever after. But because homosexuality is a sin, because they believe it is a choice, rather than something you are born being, Z will stay dead forever. This eats at her every day.

I really feel bad for her. And for Z. :o(
