Ahhhh procrastination, thy name is Blogger. Gramma Shine is coming tomorrow and I haven't cleaned anything yet. I have a new layout design for
Rich's Website but I really don't want to start working on the complete overhaul. So I sit here watching the Dateline special about the NY Times plagerist and talking to you guys.
John found out yesterday that they are going to close the warehouse where he works. They have been given 30 days notice. So I spent the last half of my day at work setting up accounts for him at the local online job sites and the entire night last night getting his
resume online. The good news is that the Teamsters are taking good care of us. We will have full pay through June and full benefits through August. On April 3rd they are having a meeting at the Union Hall to start job placement and to offer retraining. Keep your fingers crossed that there is some kind of training that John will like. He really is wasting his incredible intellect working in a warehouse. But all the blessings of the universe on the Teamsters. John also has an interview next Thursday with a placement service that specializes in warehouses. We'll be ok. This too will pass.
We got our federal taxes back and paid back Mike the money he loaned us during the burned-up care fiasco. Hopefully we will get the state ones back soon. We are actually going to keep out $500 and go do something sans enfants. I seriously can't wait. I love my children more than life but I need just one morning where I can sleep in without someone coming in and climbing up on my bed poking me and saying "Mommy are you awake?"
On the Ian front, he gets his big bowl of chocolate ice cream! He did really great the whole week in circle time. I am so proud of him! I talked to an Asperger's specialist from the Autism Society today. What a great conversation! I mean it was GREAT!!! I learned so much talking to this woman. She has a 15 year old with Asperger's and has worked in the field for about as long as well. She talked with me about things that I had read about but hadn't connected to my situation until she processed it with me. I have a whole list of things to bring up with the CDS worker and at the next IFSP meeting. Which I need to call her about on Monday because it is supposed to be this month. I am still a little bit nervous about the IEP but not as much as I was. And she said that when we have the meeting with the school scheduled, we can call the society and they will find someone to go with us. I am so psyched. Someone to look over the plan and let me know if I'm forgetting anything.
But I digress...she said that the lizard thing is similar to what she did with her son who also had trouble with circle time. He had bag of fuzzy toys that he would pick from and hold and a bean bag chair he would sit in during circle time. It is a sensory thing with them. When I talked to the OT before about sensory diet, she said Ian wouldn't respond to one because he was so cognitive with his processing. But since he is responding to the lizard thing, it would seem that that isn't entirely true. So I plan on seeing if I can get Janet to authorize Sandy (the OT) going over to Ian's childcare to see him in his natural environment and see if she can reassess her opinion. Perhaps work up some kind of sensory diet for him that we can all work on over the summer.
Ian had his "getting into kindergarten" physical with Dr. Mahoney today. She said he is very healthy. :oD He also had his last 2 immunizations today. Polio and MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella). That one didn't go so well. First of all it hurt something aweful cause he just screamed. Then he had a mild local reaction to it. THAT wasn't fun. His arm swelled up big time and he said his chest was sore. (who me? panic?) I asked Nurse Kathy if that was supposed to happen and she said "It can, but let's have the doctor look at him". So Dr. Mahoney took a look and decided to keep us there to monitor him for a while. I had him on my lap with an ice pack on his arm for about 20 minutes or so and the swelling seemed to go down. After a while he said his chest felt better too, so we packed up and headed out. I could go the rest of my life without THAT happening again. ;oD
Ok, enough of this. I really should go do something.
Peace y'all.
