The adjustment period for the Lexapro seems to be over now and I'm feeling pretty good. Odd thing, feeling pretty good.
In other odd but good news, Ian and I worked out a plan for sitting still at circle time. He gets to bring his rubber lizard, Spots, to school and put him in his cubby. At circle time he can go get him out and hold onto him. If he does a good job at circle time for a week, he gets chocolate ice cream. If he doesn't, Spots goes in time out, Ian gets doomed for the rest of the day and we start all over again.
And according to Martie, it worked!!! He sat still, didn't make noise and actually participated in the finger play and song. How bizarre is that? Asperger's is such a frustrating disorder, but when you find something that works it's great. They are so rigid in their thinking that if you can manage to get them on a routine they will NEVER vary from it. The problem is that they have to see something in it of value to them. They don't understand doing something just because that's the way it's done. They really need to have it make sense to them from their perspective. But once you can find a way to do that, it gets hardwired. The bad part is if you ever need to change it.
And it worked for church school too!! He took Shim Shome (the other rubber lizard) to church school and his teacher said he did great! They did "squoosh" pictures, where you put paint on the paper then fold it over on the paint. And Ian made 2! He even made a snake that was pretty good. So we let him pick where we had lunch after church. McDonalds, of course. It's always either McDonalds or Chinese Food at the Wok Inn. LOLOL
Now his big problem is listening and doing what he's told. Aidan is having that same trouble as well. She has been hitting the wall and floor when she gets mad, which is better than hitting people, but I would love to figure out how to get her to not hit anything. At least now she doesn't have the complete melt downs so much anymore.
This is hilarious. We stopped in at Wal Mart yesterday on the way home because Ian had to go pee. When we started to go into the restroom, Aidan hit the floor screaming and saying 'don't take me in there' so I had to pick her up and carry her in there, Ian had to go in the stall by himself so I was hollering directions at him while Aidan was on the floor screaming and trying to crawl out the door. A lady came out, washed her hands, came over to the towel dispenser by me and Aidan, dried her hands, then looked me right in the face with a big, understanding smile and said "Have a nice day". ROFL!!!! I tell ya. Motherhood is a big club and I'm glad to be in it. Most of the time. ;oD
Peace.
