IT IS COLDER THAN A POLAR BEAR'S BUTT OUT THERE!!!!!!!

CR** IT'S COLD!!!!!!!!!! According to The Weather Channel it is -5 but it feels like -24. I can attest to that because I just went out to get lunch and I think between the car and the store I got frostbite on my nose!

Ok, but this one is actually true...I was driving to work this morning. The Little Red Saturn didn't like it one bit. I had to almost stand on the clutch to get it to go down cause it was frozen up. I grabbed my morning Coke to drink on the way in. Out of the refrigerator. Mildly chilled. About half way to work I reached down to take a drink and A FILM OF ICE HAD FORMED ON IT!!!!! Honest to gods true story!!! BRRRRRRR DANGIT!!!

My CD-RW died on my laptop. I think I have been working it too hard since I started burning movies. So I went out and got a fairly cheap external drive. One of these days I am either going to get John to build a platform in the computer room so I can have my papa san chair in there and use the desktop or I am going to have him move the desktop down to my room. It's a really great machine. Custom built. I might switch it over to XP if I do that though. I have 2000 on it right now, which I do like but I am getting lazy in my old age. XP is the OS of the Lazy People. It does EVERYTHING for you. You don't even have to think. Very MAC-ish without being so incomprehensible.

It looks like Mom-in-Law is going to try making the trip up here again in the spring. She thinks she will be here for Aidan's birthday which will be cool.

We got Ian's progress report from the Developmental Preschool he goes to 2 afternoons a week. A rating of 1 means he met his goal and a rating of 4 means minimal progress. He got lots of 4s. According to the narrative comments:

"These percentages reflect baseline performance for Ian's Plan of Care. Ian attends preschool on Wednesday & Thursday. Ian needs a lot of assistance in his interactions with peers-responding to their comments, making eye contact, initiating play and negotiating for toys. Once at circle, Ian seems to enjoy singing/fingerplay, etc. Ian needs a lot of cues for transitions and what is going to happen next. Ian has made progress and we will continue to assist him with meeting his goals."

*sigh* This is the sort of thing we don't see at home because he isn't around other kids at home. In other things he is doing great. His balance is better, his handwriting is coming along... But this peer thing is probably always going to be an issue for him. I guess I finally have to admit that. I have had this little seed of hope in the back of my head that it would get "straightened out" with all of this therapy and he would just trot into kindergarden without any kind of issues at all. But it won't. He has Asperger's Syndrome. It's not going to just go away or be cured. He is going to have to work at this his whole life. And it frustrates me that I can't do anything to help him. Well, not directly anyway. I'm not around him when he's around other kids. I can model and role-play with him but beyond that, I have to trust other people to teach him these skills. And soon those other people will be employees of the school district who are notoriously eager to put kids who need help in the "Resource Room" rather than take the time to do the work. I have to trust that they aren't going to send him out into the world completely unprepared for what will be expected from him. **UGH** Parenting should be a paid position. Then we could all stay home and raise our own kids.
