*sigh* well, Ian is five. Five years old. I'm happy for him. I really am. He is so proud and excited to be five.
We went to Chuckie Cheese on Saturday (his birthday) and spent about 3 hours running around and playing games. You get like 50 tokens with the meal deal and Ian played most all of the games. He really liked Ski Ball and this dinosaur video game (of course). He got really good at the video game. It's very simple. The dinosaurs are running a race and you have to push one button to make them run faster and one button to make them jump. And there is a yellow arrow that pops up at the bottom of the screen telling you when to jump. On his third try Ian was doing it without me even having to prompt him. On Ski Ball after a couple of times he was actually getting the ball in the point holes. He has a pretty interesting delivery. LOL
And that kid is an Air Hockey SHARK!!!! He has never even SEEN air hockey before and he was hitting it back and forth like a pro. (After I managed to convince him to hold on to the paddle instead of letting it go when he hit the puck. LOLOL) He lost interest in air hockey pretty quickly though, thank goodness. I don't like it much and I think he would have been better than me anyway. ;oD
My mom got him a Lego Dinosaur kit and he played with it most of yesterday. I started to put it together for him because he usually wants me to but when I started he said "Mom, I haven't even tried yet." So I thought, 'OOPPSS. Mommy faux pas' and gave him the pieces for the next section and showed him what I had done and had him try to duplicate it. It took a while and I admit I helped him a little bit but after that, aside from the really small pieces of the T-Rex head, he put the whole thing together himself. And after a couple of tries he was able to put it back together when it came apart while he was playing with it too. He was
VERY proud of himself after
that triumph. His fine motor skills are getting so much better. I guess OT is helping.
Philip got him a velcro target and ball set. John worked with him on it some because he still uses his whole arm to throw. After a while, he was able to use his elbow and was doing pretty well. He is really learning to adapt and subsitute cognitive process for natural instinct. He actually talks out the steps, like 'I'm bending my elbow and going like this now' and shows me what he is doing. What a great, smart kid.
Aidan was slow to get into the whole Chuckie Cheese thing. She was just overwhelmed when we first walked in. She and Daddy spent "quiet" time at the table while Ian and I went out to the game floor. Ian climbed on the climbing structure for most of that time 'til Auntie and Philip got there. Aidan was pretty quiet through the eating and present part but after that she got down to look at the mechanical Chuckie on the stage and from there she was off and running. She was positively
facinated by the guy in the Chuckie suit. "He's so cute." she kept saying. LOL Her favorite game seemed to be the Bop the Shark game. They don't have sticks, you just bop with your hand. She really liked that one.
She ended up with about 40 tickets and Ian ended up with around 130ish.
He's just growing up so fast. Next year he will be going to kindergarden. I'm not ready. I don't know why. He goes to preschool and daycare almost everyday. I don't know why I feel different about kindergarden. I will probably feel better after we go visit and meet the teachers and whatnot this summer. Maybe it's the public school system that worries me. I have heard horrible things about the school system he is going into as far as inclusion and children with disabilities.
But he's doing so much better that perhaps it won't be an issue. Well, I can hope anyway.
Peace
