I was reading one of Ian's report-type things from CDS yesterday. One of the fields was "Primary Handicapping Function". Which his is listed as Developmental Delay, Diagnosis: Asperger's Syndrome.

Primary Handicapping Function. How in the world can you make this phrase relate to a 4 year old child. A cute, happy, sweet, smart, funny little 4 year old child. It sounds like a Windows Error Message. Like he has a General Protection Fault or something and needs to be rebooted.

I don't know why I feel like I need to say all of this stuff in these blogs today. Well, actually yes I do. Because they are treating him like a malfunctioning hardrive. Shipping him from repair shop to repair shop trying to fix a glitch in his system. Download a repair patch for Asperger's Syndrome. I just feel like I need to say "STOP IT! He's a kid! A little boy! A human being! A unique, diverse, wonderful little person with so many gifts and so much to give the world!" He has the greatest laugh and the most amazing sense of humor. He gets so much joy out of life. I love spending time with him. He is a great story teller and has wonderful perspectives and opinions on things. I really enjoy reading books and watching TV with him because he "gets it". He comes up with some facinating insites into things. He thinks! With every nuance that word entails. And he cares!

It's really hard not to get down on the system and all the people in it on days like this. But I try. I ask for strength and wisdom and I try.
