It would seem that, for the most part, I am no longer in danger of drowning in my own bodily fluids, the front of my face will probably not explode from the pressure of my sinuses and I will
not in fact actually cough up a lung.
So I am back. But if any of you are scientifically/medically inclined. We need to make curing the common cold a
serious research priority!
Now, what has been going on. Let's see. My Aunt Dee was in the hospital for a couple of days with heart irregularities. It was a bit scarey because the email I got from Uncle Merle wasn't real clear as to how serious things were. So I called her and she sounded ok, which made me feel a bit better. She has to be on medication for blood pressure and whatnot but they are letting her go to England so I suppose it's ok. It seems that everyone on the Phillips side of the family is relatively healthy until one day they just all fall apart. I say relatively because we are prone to allergies and asthma, premature grey hair and bad teeth but of the health issues out there, not dire by any means.
I finally got over my initial ire regarding the speech therapist. I'm still not 100% happy about the options available but at this point we really have to cut our losses. After going to the DT preschool and looking around the rooms, talking to the director and the teachers, observing some activities with the kids we decided that it would be the best of our choices at this point. So we enrolled him for 2 afternoons a week. He will be in Debbie's class which is a more loosely structured class. Debbie seems to be a very nice but firm teacher. She interacted with Ian a bit while we were visiting and even jumped in a couple of times to try and facilitate some interaction with him and one of the other kids. *sigh* It has a really low student/teacher ratio and they do embedded DT instead of pull-out which is really what Ian needs. Janet, the CDS lady, was also able to get him on service with a speech therapist who works at the hospital right next to the school. So he can have his 1 hour of one on one therapy and then she will come over to the school for 1 hour of in group therapy. And the teachers at the school will embed her therapy into his time when she's not there as well as his OT work. And the building he has his OT in is right across the street. So Norway, Maine is the place you want to be for DT/OT for your kids. LOLOL It's just going to be more of a battle now to keep him from getting pulled out in Kindergarten. But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Ian is so excited he doesn't understand why he can't start going today so I guess there's a good side to it too.
Mom and Dad will be coming to visit in 2 or 3 weeks so that will be nice. I know Mom is bummed that she can't see the kids more. Because I have to save up my vacation/sick time for my operation I am only going to be able to take afternoons off while they are here but that's cool. They will have just as much fun hanging out playing with the kids in the morning anyway. They just love to spoil them. Last time they were here they were up with the kids at 6 or 7 and giving them chocolate doughnuts for breakfast. LOLOL
Alright. I've run out of steam for today. Hopefully this stupid cold will be completely gone by the end of the week and I will be
much more interesting. ;oD
