I am having a big time "Lovin' Bein' a Mommy" day. I have
great kids. I have no idea how it happened but I have
really great kids! They are so cool and smart and funny and nice... I'm almost afraid to write this for fear I'll jinx it somehow. :oD
On Sunday when we were driving to church they were in the back seat making faces at each other and hollering at the top of their lungs and laughing their heads off. It was so cool! Ian is getting to be such a protective big brother, which considering the complications from the Asperger's is doubly wonderful. He takes time out from what he is doing or talking about when she gets hurt and protests when she is about to get in trouble. He even goes over and physically helps her do what she is supposed to be doing so she doesn't get doomed. He is always bringing her her Minnie Mouse toy (which is her 'lovey'). It is just the cutest thing.
Last night, after school, we watched
Piglet's Big Movie and at the end is a video of Carly Simon singing one of the songs from the movie. (She did all the songs on the soundtrack.) And Ian liked it so I thought, 'Hey, I'll just pull out my old
Loggins and Messina album (yes it's VINYL!!!) and see what he thinks of
House at Pooh Corner.' So I get it out and put it on the turntable and when I turn around Ian is walking over to me with his hands out. He takes my hands and we start dancing. It was just amazing. We danced through the whole song and he really liked it. One of those "This is what I went through 39 weeks of hell, 7 hours of labor and an episiotomy for" moments. LOLOL I must hold on to this one so I can pull it out later when he is 15 and screaming "I HATE YOU" at the top of his lungs. :oD
I knew I was going to be the only one in this morning so I didn't feel the need to run around like a decapitated barnyard fowl while getting the kids up and out. They did really well, until we got in the parking lot at school at which point Aidan's Irish Temper kicked in and she threw her sunglasses on the floor because she didn't want to put them away like I told her to. So I told her she couldn't take Minnie into school because she was in trouble for throwing and that set off the water works, of course. But once we got in the building she was fine. We went into her class while Ian was taking his backpack and lunchbox upstairs to his cubby and I talked to Jessica (one of her teachers) for a while. I always hear the best reports from her teachers. Even her church school teachers. She is so nice and has such good manners.
HA! How little they know! She keeps her best behavior for when she's not at home. For me, she saves up all the tantrums and I get them when she gets home! LOLOL She is going to be a force to be reckoned with when she grows up. I am so proud of her. When she gets older and figures out what to do with all these emotions and how to control and harness them she will rock the world! I had hoped the name I gave her would be a self-fulfilling prophesy for her and so far it is working. Aidan is Gaelic for "Little Fire". But on the other side, she is such a little mother. She is always in touch with the feelings of others around her. When anyone gets hurt or is sad she will go up to them and say "Are you ok?" and pet them. The other day when I went to pick them up she and one of her little friends came up to me and Aidan was petting her on the back while we were talking because the girl seemed uncomfortable.
I have no idea why the universe put these two phenomenal little people in my care, but every morning and evening when I take my time to commune and meditate I ask for the strength and wisdom not to screw up. :oD
