Another interesting weekend around our little neck of the woods. Before I get started, I want to return Laura's greeting and wish her and everyone a Blessed Lughnasadh. For those of you who don't know what that holiday is and want to
here is a brief overview of it.
On Wednesday Crazy Woman invited me to her cabin up in North Belgrade for a meeting with the rest of her team on Friday and I thought, "Well, I really do need to make an effort to try and get along with her" so I said ok. I got up there and contrary to what I had thought, it was actually a cabin. Not one of those year round houses on the lake but an actual cabin. I was pleasantly surprised. The place was alive with birds, red squirrels and chipmunks. I was the second one there so while we waited, she offered us munchies and said there was beer and wine if we wanted some. I was a bit leery so I stuck with my Coke until I saw what everyone else was doing. When a couple more folks showed up, she announced that we weren't going to work after all. It was just going to be a day of rest by the lake. Now I was of two minds on this. First, GREAT!! no work, at a cabin, by a lake, free food and beer...how cool is that?! Second, CRAP!! I'm stuck in a remote cabin with no polite way to escape, having to socialize with Crazy Woman...how much does that suck?!
Turned out it wasn't too bad. Her husband was there and he is quite nice. A little geeky, but nice and we chatted some. I had a couple of beers and we all went out on the pontoon boat for a putter around the lake. We saw some pine trees that had been struck by lightening and instead of cutting them down, the folks carved them into some lovely animal statues. We also saw an osprey nest and one of the adults was out sitting on a bare limb which was quite wonderful. I really wish I had had my camera with me. A very relaxing afternoon. I left around 2 and got home in time to do some online work but the beers caught up with me and I fell asleep until it was time to go get the kids from school. LOLOL I haven't had beer in years so my constitution for it leaves a bit to be desired these days.
Saturday Auntie came to watch the kids so we could go out. We were going to go see Pirates of the Caribbean at Chunky's in Windam but when we got there it was sold out. So we drove down to Falmouth, hoping to eat at Casa Napoli because I was seriously in the mood for italian food. It's not there anymore. (this becomes a theme pretty soon) So we went to Moose Crossing instead. Good food. The steak was nicely cooked but the meat itself had little flavor. Then we went down to Portland and sat on the Hill for a while listening to Thistle and Shamrock on MPR. John thinks this would be a good time for Ben and Jerry's and since I never think there is a BAD time for Ben and Jerry's we head down to the Old Port. It's not there anymore. Ben and Jerry's not the Old Port. LOLOL So then we decide to take a "That didn't used to be there/Where did that go?" tour of the area just for kicks. It's been way too long since we frequented Portland. So we ended up having cones at Friendly's on the way home. Auntie had a great time with the kids and they seemed to have had fun to so it wasn't a waste of an evening at any rate.
Daredevil is out on video now but all the copies were out at Blockbuster when we stopped so I guess I will have to wait a week to see it. I know everyone said it sucked, but Daredevil is one of my favorite comics so I want to see for myself if it sucks. I am still waiting in anxious anticipation for X2 on video.
Sunday morning we went to church. Now Unitarian Universalists
generally don't attend church during the summer. But a bunch of us turned out for this service because it was Jean (our minister's) last day. She is leaving to move to Connecticut. We have an interim minister whom I haven't met yet. Since I am the Web Page and Newsletter committee, I suppose I should at some point. I have heard that there are a couple of folks who want to join the Web Page committe which will be great. I would love the help. I just have to get ahold of them. I suppose I can do that this evening. Hopefully. September is coming up fast and things will get back into full swing before I know it.
Well, that catches y'all up on things around here. Talk to ya later.
