Alright people, be forewarned, I am going to shamelessly brag about my kid...and my hubby. How cool is that?

On Monday, which is "all day at home with Daddy day" Ian was having his "alone time" with daddy while Aidan was having her nap. They were watching Walking with Dinosaurs and daddy comes up with a terribly clever idea. When they introduced a dinosaur on the movie, Ian and Daddy would figure out what letter the name of the dinosaur started with and look in the index of the Big White Dinosaur book to find it so they could look at the page in the book too. Ian was getting very good at figuring out the letter and finding it in the book, and from what daddy says, he was even starting to figure out how to sound out the letters to find the names of the dinosaurs. With daddy's help, of course. My kid is learning to READ!!!!!!! I am not going to be a hopeless failure as a parent!!!!! Now I know the trick!!!!! Thank the goddess.

Ian and I were having an interesting converstation yesterday on the way home from school about lightening and fire. Well we were having a mild thunderstorm at the time so it was topical. He said that daddy told him that sometimes it was a good thing for fire to happen in a forest because the plants will grow back better. (Bless daddy's little pea pickin' heart.) So we talked about how when god set up the rules when he made the explosion happen that started the universe (I'm trying to keep it simple at this point, he's only 4) he made it so everything worked together to keep the planet healthy. And that means that every once in a while lightening would strike and start a fire to do just that, clear out the forests when they get overgrown so the plants can grow back better and then the animals will have more food and more room to live. The great thing about being a parent is that everything is a learning/teaching opportunity. Even the goofy stuff they watch on TV. You just have to be looking for it and take advantage of it when it comes.

I have always been nervous about how we are going to balance a multifaith household. I am the sort of person who likes to have a clear plan of attack on a problem and have as many contingencies as possible in the case of possible deviation. OK I AM SLIGHTLY OCD!!!!! LOLOL So I spent the first couple of years of Ian's life in a complete stupor trying to figure out how to introduce spirituality into his life so that he would be able to come to either of us with questions and not get too confused. And just this year, I decided that if I didn't just jump in and do it, it would be too late so I did. I found a good opportunity in a conversation and I introduced the concept of god. I'm trying to keep my explanations as earth-based as possible and still compatible with John's christian beliefs but there is going to come a time when Ian will notice the differences between how Mommy worships and how Daddy worships and these things will have to be explained. Luckily the Unitarian Universalist church is the perfect environment for that, which is why we chose it. And John is a very eclectic christian who doesn't adhere terribly strictly to the bible which is the only way we have been able to stay together for 16 years. LOLOL

I'm having a big-time "I Love Being a Mommy" day. In case you haven't noticed.

Tuesday is the FINAL IFSP meeting. We will be including the Speech/Language therapy hours into his plan and that should be it until he has to start getting ready for kindergarden next year. HURRAY!!! I'm a bit nervous about it because while I was talking to Martie today she said that we have to be very careful to make sure everything we want to happen is written into the IFSP. If we all talk about something and agree it's a great idea, but it doesn't get written into the plan, CDS won't fund it and it won't happen. So I have to make myself some notes to make sure I remember everything and that it gets written in. *SHEESH* And this is only the beginning of the battles for us over this kind of thing. I was talking to another lady I work with who has an autistic child, albeit much more severe than Ian, and she said that schools are very blunt in their attitudes about children with disabilites. She said that when her daughter wasn't allowed to go on a field trip to the beach the principal actually told her that "those kids" don't go. "We bring sea shells back for them", he said. And I admire the fact that instead of bashing his idiot skull in, she held a candlelight vigil outside the school in protest.

I guess I'd better stock up on candles now.
