The long week is over, Mom In Law is safely on the plane back to the midwest and I am back at work. Yuck!
It was a good 5 days. It was extremely inclement for Maine. Upper 90s a lot of the time. But Grandma bought us one of those blue "bag pools" for the back yard so we spent lots of time in there. Me and the kiddies got lots of sun.
Thursday we went to the beach. I will NEVER take Aidan to the beach by myself without wrapping her in floaties from head to toe. That child will be my last grey hair and my first coronary. She only went under 4 times because she was just running in the water up to her hips. Grandma and I never left her side.
She thought it was
great however and just went right on doing it. The good news is she doesn't panic. She never swallowed/inhaled water. We finally got her settled down and started the floating/kicking/blowing bubbles thing. If she stays alive she will be swimming before she's 3. Ian is still a bit intimidated by water but by the end of the day he was going out up to his chest. I got him a big inflatable shark and he was swiming that around which, I think, gave him a bit more confidence. Then we went for Chinese food and to Wal Mart for the pool.
Friday John was home so we set up the pool and swam around in that for a while. John doesn't like to get wet so he just sat and watched. I had him get that inflatable ball pit out of the barn and clean it up and the kids played in that for a while too. Then John cooked some steaks and taters and whatnot. It was good stuff. No fireworks, this year. The backyard is actually starting to look like we have kids. Sandbox, baby slide, ball pit, swimming pool, yard swing... Pretty cool. Of course, everything but the baby slide was bought by Grandma Shine...
Thank you Grandma!!
Saturday we went for a ride on Saco River Queen paddle boat. We just did the 1 hour tour around Long Lake rather than the 2 1/2 hour ride down the river. The 1 hour ride was almost too long for the kids. We hit a cloud burst at the far end so everyone was pretty well soaked but I think they had a good time. Then we went to eat at Charlie's on the Causway. Good burger, man!
And Then...John and I got to go out sans infants. We went to the drive in in Bridgton and saw "Terminator 3" and "Matrix Reloaded". Terminator 3 sucked so bad I can't even describe it. If you haven't wasted your money yet,
DON'T. I was so bored I wanted to cry. Now, on the other hand, Matrix Reloaded
ROCKED!!!!! I watched the first one again right before we went to make sure I didn't miss anything and I'm glad I did. DAMN these are beautiful movies!! Absolutely, artistically, visually masterful!!! And the storyline is original, wonderful, interesting, captivating.... well you get the idea. The acting is great too. Lawrence Fishburn is a dreadfully underappreciated actor. I would put him on a level with Olivier. His presence overshadows that of James Earl Jones, in my opinion, comparing African American Actors. Keanu Reeves has a limited range but when he is in his range he is great. And this character is definitely within his range. Very good work. I am going to have to book a babysitter now for November so I can make sure to catch the final chapter on the big screen.
