Casco Days is passed again for another year. Phew! LOL Ian had a great time. Aidan was still a bit too young for the full day, it turns out.
We went out into the back yard in the morning to play because the parade didn't start until 1 pm. Ian dug holes by his "T-Rex nest" (a large mound of plant covered dirt by the back of the house that looks like a nest in
Walking with Dinosaurs). Aidan and I walked around the yard picking and eating raspberries. Ok I picked, she ate. Our entire back yard is surrounded by wild rasperry bushes so she had at least 3 mommy-sized handfulls of rasperries. I can' believe she didn't get a belly ache.
The parade was very cool, as small town parades go. Lots of repeat appearences but enjoyable none the less. It's an indication of how far down the Westbrook Marching Band has come since their director left that
they condescended to march in our parade this year. ;oD The kids from the camps put on great "spectacles". Last year we had Vikings, this year we had Romans. LOLOL Ian and Aidan collected an
obscene amount of candy, half of which mysteriously disappeared overnight. ;oD One of the floats were throwing out Mardi Gras beads and Ian had two of them on. Aidan and I had one each. They got little toy animals from the local PROP child care and a card for the parents. Ian spent a lot of time with his hands over his ears but Aidan was right down there pointing and dancing.
After the parade we put shoes on and walked down to the fair ground. The first thing Ian wanted to do was go down the big purple slide. There was one teenager running the thing so it was semi-organized chaos but he had his 3 turns and enjoyed it. Then he wanted to go bouncing in the Tiger house. Aidan wanted to go in too but once she got in there it was too much and wanted to come back out. So we played one of the games where you pay your money and the kids can catch one of the swimming duck to see what number is underneath then they get a prize from the same numbered box. Ian got a frog and Aidan got a Kush Sheep. But she was just too tired. Too much for a 2 year old, I guess. She pretty much melted in to a fussy, fitty mess so daddy took her home for nap. Ian and I then took a walk around and he wanted to go on the Merry go Around. So we paid our tickets and got on. He was happy, happy boy. He was smiling and laughing and looking around, then he started making the sounds of the frog and the horse he was riding on so they would be talking. When it was over he wanted to go again but I realized that we didn't have enough tickets. I told him that if he wanted to go on the Ferris Wheel we would have to save our tickets and not go on the Merry Go Around again. He was ok with that. Then he decided he was thirsty so we went to the lemonade stand. A bit of a long line but there was a large pine tree nearby with the christmas light still on it (not lit). So he would go look at it for a while then come back to check on me and go off again. It made the wait easier for everyone concerned. Once we got there the lemonade was great. I feel sorry for the poor volunteer in the booth though. He had been standing there squishing lemons and mixing the lemonade (they make it one glass at a time) since 10 that morning. We each had one so I had to help Ian put his frog in his pocket so he could hold his drink. He was facinated by the half lemon in the cup and was playing with it while he drank. LOLOL
We wandered around for a bit more while he drank and then it was time to go on the Ferris Wheel. My favorite ride, by the way. Ian was loving it. He was being a Mamenchisaurus, eating leaves off the tops of trees and I was riding on his neck. LOL When that ride was over I could tell he was winding down so I decided we would skip the fire truck this year. We went over to the baloon booth and Ian picked out an alien inflatable and I got a
HUGE Pooh baloon for Aidan. It's bigger than her.
WAY cool and only $5.00. You pay like $20 or more for those at the store. Then it was time for the walk home. We took it easy for the afternoon. We watched one of Ian's "Land Before Time" movies and he took a break on the floor playing with his "Box O' Dinosaurs". Aidan was still napping and so was daddy, so I read a book and let everyone rest. It was nice. I don't have time to do much reading lately so it was kind of a break for me too. Then daddy went next door and got a pizza for dinner and everyone crashed. I know they were tired because they didn't wake me up until almost 9 am. That's wicked late for them.
All in all a pretty nice weekend.
