The kids had their first Drive In experience on Saturday night. What a trip! LOLOL We are lucky to still have a drive in close to us anyway because the screen blew down in a storm before last season but, bless his little pea pickin' heart, he built a new one. It's just painted plywood but it works and beggers can't be choosers. The bad thing is that all the playground equipment was squashed by the falling screen and he hasn't gotten new stuff. So all the kids were just running around in the empty lot under the screen before the movie. Ian and Aidan were joining right in.
We went to see "Finding Nemo" which we thought would be a good bet because it's a sea creature movie. Before the movie we stopped at McDonalds for dinner and they were giving away Nemo toys so Ian had his out and playing with it in the lot. There was a kid there who was kind of standing off to the side looking lost so John asked Ian if he would like to go invite the kid to play and Ian did! The kid's name was Ryan and when Ryan's mom saw Ian's Nemo toy she gave Ryan his Nemo toy and the two kids ran around playing with their toys. How cool is that! Of course, Ian sort of got set on a game and when Ryan tired of it, he kind of tired of playing with Ian. But then Ryan went and played with Aidan who was exploring the treeline, picking flowers and throwing rocks.
We had planned on taking lawn chairs but the forecast called for rain so instead we took out the carseats and folded down the back seat in the station wagon. Lots of blankets and pillows and we all settled in to watch the movie. Ian was kind of confused by the Woody Woodpecker cartoon, but once the movie actually got started he seemed fine. Aidan was trying to crawl over everyone and everything but I finally got her settled down and Ian kind of found a spot and laid down. Once he was down he really didn't move. He kept commenting that it was getting dark. I think that freaked him out more than anything, being out in the dark. Once the movie was over, he was right up and wanted to go home. He didn't seem upset by it though just time to go home cause it was dark.
If there are any other kiddie movies this summer we may do that again. It worked out pretty well. And Nemo was a pretty decent flick too. I loved Ellen Degeneres in this. She did a great job. And the sharks on the 12 step program was priceless. LOLOL
