Tomorrow is our first IFSP meeting. That is Individual Family Service Plan. This will be to determine what services Ian can get, how he can get them and how they can be integrated into his preschool curriculum. Oy vey zamere. I don't know what I would do if I didn't work here at the Center and if I didn't have Martie helping me through all this. The CDS worker who is supposed to be doing all the work of putting services together isn't doing a really great job. Martie and I had to call around and even find someone to do the pragmatic speech evaluation because Janet (the CDS worker) couldn't find anyone to do it. Sad. And she and I have been doing most of the brainstorming to come up with service plan options as well.

I suppose this is one of those "If you want something done right, do it yourself" kind of things but man... What about all of those parents who don't have the kind of connections that I do. Or the tenacity (read stubborn obstinancy) to do all the extra work themselves and bug people until they do what you need them to do. And the government is just making it harder and harder with the new IDEA reauthorization bill they are pushing through as part of "No Child Left Behind" which is actually "No Child With Absolutely 'Normal' Aptitude in All Testable Areas Left Behind". There is a great website for a grassroots organization starting up to fight HR 1350 (the reauthorization bill). Our Children Left Behind . I encourage everyone to go check it out and call your congresspeople and especially those on the subcommitte list on the site to let them know that what they are doing is hurting children!

Well, enough soapbox for today. Thanks.
